Become a valued member of GB Ultras & join the Event Team supporting runners during the race!

Experience the event from the other side and make a difference.  We’re looking for dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to help with the various aspects of the event before, during and after each of our races.

Event Team roles are designated prior to the event with different roles available to suit the individual based on their experience.

Roles include event set-up and clear-down, race registration, traffic marshals, checkpoint team members, first aid and medical team, mountain team positions (if applicable), finish line team members and, at some events, sweeping the race.

Event costs can be waived for the same event in the following year providing criteria of a minimum 8 hours volunteering (50 Mile) or minimum of 14 hours volunteering (100 Mile) is met.  An Event Team tech tee shirt will also be provided.

Its an amazing feeling to support runners as all of the runners are exceptionally grateful & you become a fundamental part of their race experience.

To apply to join the team for one (or more!) of our events at GB Ultras please complete and submit your details below.

Meet our Volunteer Champions!

Below are our key members of our volunteer team – have a read about why they volunteer at our events and what keeps them coming back again angd again.

Andy Lane

Having come from cross country running to trail half and full marathons a injury to my leg put my running days to an end. Now having wire pins and wires instead of tendons running days are non existent.

I became a serial volunteer, GB Ultras are a fantastic family to come and work for, it’s always great to see how much hard work goes into running these events,  from event setup and building the gantry, working in the merchandise tents, and helping at race registration.

The GB Ultras family have seen I’m great at logistics, traffic marshalling and problem solving. I’m usually the first person runners, other volunteers and support teams see as I held people to register and car parking.

I really enjoy all aspects of volunteering as you get to do a lot of wonderful things and get to meet a lot of people.

The ultra running community is the best family around and seeing runners journeys to their first ultra or the season runners trying to do a slam or the covered grand slam.

GB ultras are the best.

I started as a volunteer when my husband Jim first ran M2L,.

instead of following him over the course I got to be at a middle checkpoint and then be at the finish line.

I made so many friends on that first time that it was an easy decision to volunteer at more events.

Now I attend most of the events including the recce runs.

When I thought about running everyone is so supportive, it really does become a community.

I also get to see some amazing places when volunteering.

I first volunteered for GB Ultras at RAS 2022 to give support having completed Scotland 50 in June 2022.  I discovered how amazingly supportive the volunteer community are, and volunteering escalated in 2023 after a long Covid diagnosis.  I can usually be found at registration and then at a variety of CPs.  The GB Ultras Event team which includes RDs, the volunteers, the media crew and medical team reach out to give everyone an amazing time.   FOMO does not exist because if you are not there you are definitely missing out.

Jo Punt

You’ll see me at most of the events, normally at registration and on checkpoints, in kitchens and I’m quite well known for my nails.

I used to run, I have completed a marathon and an ultra, however due to injury those days are over so now I volunteer to help others achieve their goals.

Volunteering is for everyone, whether you can spare a few hours or whole days there will be something for you to do.

You will find it rewarding, meet some wonderful people and make some good friends, and, you may just keep coming back again and again to either volunteer or run 50, 100 or 215 miles.

I think of GB Ultras as a family, a family of people from all over the world, everyone as important as each other and everyone welcome.

Hope to see you soon x
