GB Ultras Event Team Briefings

The GB Ultras Event Team come together to support runners at the event and can be what makes the difference to each participant’s journey, safety, enjoyment and success. 

The Event Team videos provide guidance to new or experienced Event Team members and cover the various roles within the team.  GB Ultras view each member of the team as equally important and instrumental to the progress of each participant.

In the lead up to the event, each member of the team will be emailed specific information including location details that will help to give a greater insight into their role and responsibilities pre-race, during the race and post-race.

Welcome to the GB Ultras Event Team.  The GB Ultras Code of Conduct applies to Employees, Ambassadors and members of the Event Team.  

We want all of our participants, the Event Team, supporters during the race and members of the public to have a positive memorable experience of the event, to do this we have created a GB Ultras Code of Conduct. 

  • The Code of Conduct is a point of reference and a guide for all concerned with the event operations.
  • It ensures that we all share the same vision, mission and values.
  • Team members are caring and supportive to each participant
  • Know the type of conduct that is expected when we become a member of the GB Ultras Event Team.

2. Checkpoint Leader Brief

The Checkpoint Leader Brief summarises key duties and responsibilities of your role leading the GB Ultras Checkpoint.  These include:

  • Assigning roles at the Checkpoint
  • Collection of Checkpoint equipment before the race
  • The setup of the Checkpoint
  • Ensuring all the Checkpoint team has been briefed
  • Keeping the Checkpoint tidy
  • The management of the Checkpoint
  • Communicating key race information with Race HQ such as participants pulling out of the race
  • Please note: Specific Checkpoint Leader information, including location details, are emailed well prior to the event.

3. Event Team Brief

Welcome to the GB Ultras Event Team. The Event Team Brief summarises the key duties and responsibilities of the various role’s in the GB Ultras team including Event Setup, Race Registration, Checkpoint Support, Traffic Marshal positions, Finish Line Support and much more.  Within each role, the duties are discussed:

  • Checkpoint setup and different roles within the team
  • The role of the Sweeper/Tail runner and the role of Traffic Marshals
  • Communicating key race information with the Checkpoint Leader such as injuries, retirees, food and water supplies
  • Participants pulling out of the race must hand over their bib and GB Race Tracker to Checkpoint personnel
  • Please note: All relevant Checkpoint details will be emailed well prior to the event. 

4. Mountain Team Brief

Welcome to the GB Ultras Mountain/Trail Team.  If selected, you’ll be experienced on the trails and will be one of number of team members deployed to monitor and provide support to participants between checkpoints.  If there are any reasons why the role might not be suitable or if you can’t make the event please let the Race Director team know.

  • Carry sufficient food and water for estimated time in position
  • Wear a GB Ultras high-vis vest to ensure you’re identifiable to other team members and participants
  • Part of the mountain team positioned to action low level routes in severe weather (i.e. Yr Wyddfa Ultra – a team of 2 – 25 mountain marshals are deployed within close range of each other)
  • Ensure you have suitable clothing (waterproof trousers and waterproof coat) should weather conditions turn
  • Provide event communications and updates to the Mountain Marshal Lead/Race HQ
  • Please note: All relevant Mountain/Trail details will be emailed well prior to the event. If deployed on the mountains, a VHF two-way radio and/or Iridium satellite phone maybe provided.
