NO SUPORTERS/SUPPORT CREW ACCESS

Due to parking limitations, GB Ultras request compliance that runners inform Support Crews, supporters and friends and family not to attend locations that may impact safety of participants, members of the public, members of the team or themselves.  These locations will be confirmed.

Please ensure your support crews are made aware this requirement to avoid time penalties being imposed to yourself or your disqualification from the event.

It is expected that some venues are being used during the day and also during night-time hours.  Support crews, and supporters (family and friends of a runner) are expected to be respectful to the local community and nearby residents.  Opening and closing car doors, playing music, cheering, talking, leaving cars running, etc can all play their part to disturb others.  GB Ultras expect compliance that they will inform their Support Crews and supporters of the by-products of an event of this nature and ensure that we all play our part to reduce disturbance.

A Dropbag is permitted at:

Dropbag 1 – CP3 (57 Miles) Mottram Community Centre

Dropbag 2 – CP5 (99 Miles) Christ Church Hall Healey

Dropbag 3 – CP8 (156 Miles) Pennington Wharf Community Centre

Dropbag 4 – Finish (200 Miles)

Your Dropbag can be handed to GB Ultras staff at Race Registration prior to the event (on race morning) once you have collected your bib number and Race Tracker.

Your Dropbag should be clearly labelled with your race number at Registration.  Labels are provided during Race Registration on race morning.

Dropbags should be of a small/medium backpack/drybag type similar in size to a carry-on cabin case with maximum dimensions of 56cm x 45cm x 25cm and must be no more than 7kg in weight.  Large bags, suitcases and bags of excessive weight will be refused to be transported.

Once the Checkpoint has closed and has been cleaned up, all dropbags will be transported to the finish venue in Manchester to meet runners there.

It is the responsibility of the runner to pick up any dropbags.  In the event that a participant withdraws from the race, they must collect their dropbag from the finish venue (or from the checkpoint location whilst it is still open) – these will not be transported to other locations along the race route. Dropbags not collected from the finish line will be disposed of.

Mandatory kit MUST be carried AT ALL TIMES during the race.

Failure to carry all items of mandatory kit can result in a participant being disqualified.

Random kit checks at race registration, during the race and at the finish line will take place.  All participants agree to be subject to kit checks as part of the safe running of the event.

If you do not have all the items of kit during kit check at Registration, you will not be permitted to race. If you do not have all items of your mandatory kit at a kit check during the race then you will not be permitted to continue in the race until you have the item.  If you do not have an item or items of Mandatory Kit at the finish line of the race, you will be subject to time penalties or disqualification for multiple items.

As each runner crosses the finish line, their race chip records their individual finishing position and finishing time.

Your position and time shown in the results link is your official result. The results are initially provisional and will be finalised within 48 hours of the conclusion of the race to update any omissions and for the adjustment of time penalties and disqualifications.

Please note that the tracking system is different to the timing system and has no bearing on your chip time or result.

Although largely a trail event, due to the nature of the event, there are inevitably some road crossings where it will be necessary to slow and possibly stop. No roads are closed en route. Particular attention should be given at these points.

As always, if you see a runner experiencing difficulties please inform Checkpoint Marshals. Each runner should have the Race Organiser’s mobile number saved in their contacts for the duration of the event. Our team will always endeavour to reach any participant in difficulty but due to inaccessibility of the Trail this can take time.

The trail runs close by water courses including rivers and canals.

Conditions might well be muddy and icy, be careful and mindful, of uneven and slippery terrain, falling branches, some overgrowth, stiles to negotiate and close to the stiles, barbed wire.  Watch your footing.  Also be mindful and respectful of other users of the trail, giving priority to others.  Please ensure that you read the Race Instructions in full and watch the virtual Race Brief and Mandatory Kit video for the event.  The Mandatory Kit is the minimum standard of acceptable kit deemed necessary by the organising team, however, you may wish to acrry more kit depending on your individual circumstances.

**To REDUCE the likelihood of disturbance to the local community and residents at night time hours, A SINGLE SUPPORT VEHICLE PER RUNNER IS PERMITTED. SUPPORTERS MUST NOT ARRIVE AT CHECKPOINTS ANY EARLIER THAN 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE EXPECTED TIME OF THEIR RUNNER**

Please note, due to parking limitations, Supporters (including Crews / Friends & Family) are requested to not travel to the following locations:

Checkpoint locations where we ask supporters not to attend will be confirmed here in the lead up to the race.

SUPPORTERS / CREWS – GB Ultras request compliance that Supporters (friends and family) and Support Crews do not ATTEND the above locations.

Due to safety concerns based on large numbers of vehicles attending the location.  The location cannot handle the volume of cars, access/egress is impacted in an emergency and sections approaching checkpoints which involve road crossing and/or blind corners.  These factors, coupled with additional event traffic affecting the road, deem compliance necessary.  Please note, race rules, time penalties/disqualification may apply to their runner.

Supporters risk their runner being given time penalties or disqualified if they are present at the above location where we have requested they do not travel to. Your race instructions will include a specific section on Supporters and will provide further details.

At other checkpoint locations, no more than two Supporters per participant are permitted at a checkpoint at any one time.  These must not impede the Event team nor other runners.

Supporters must not take the food nor drink from the checkpoint except for their runner unless given permission to do so.

Supporters must take their rubbish with them – they are not permitted to leave rubbish at checkpoints.

Supporters must respect instructions given by Event Staff.  Failure to do so will result in them being asked to leave the checkpoint and possible time penalties or disqualification of the runner.

Dogs (except service dogs) are not permitted at any of the checkpoints.

Please note additional ‘Supporter Access Points’ to help crews support runners during the event will be provided here in the lead up to the race.  In the meantime, Support Crews may look over the race route and decide where best to support.  Please request them to take into account the terrain, private roads, local residents and causing any disturbance.  Support crews and supporters can also be seen to be representing GB Ultras during the race.

Full details of the terms and conditions of entry can be found here.

Our Privacy Policy can be found here.

Full details of the terms and conditions of entry can be found here. A summary of the withdrawal and refund policy is provided below.

Withdrawal prior to the race

Due to the nature of the event, costs are incurred as soon as a participant signs up, no refunds are possible in this event.

However, GB Ultras understand injuries do occur so would URGE ALL RUNNERS to take out DOGTAG PERSONAL MEDICAL COVER or BMC Personal Cover to help claim back the entry fee (due to injury) and thus following the insurance companies process. Please be aware that the Insurance Company determines whether the nature of your injury will necessitate a refund.

We allow deferrals to the following years race or transfer of your place to another runner subject to the timescales below. Transfers to another runner are also subject to the replacement runner meeting the qualifying criteria for the event (please see the Qualifying Criteria section).

Deferrals

Deferrals or changes to another event must be requested 8 weeks prior to race date. Any deferral requests made after this cannot be actioned due to event costs incurred. There is an admin fee payable for transfer of the race place which can be paid here. Once received, we will action your request and send confirmation of your place in your new event.  If this doesn’t land in your inbox, please check your junk/spam folder.  The admin fee is necessary as the entrant has effectively taken a place in the starting line for two years of the event incurring costs to GB Ultras and there is inevitably price increases behind the scenes from suppliers.

Please note that a place can only be deferred a single time. Once a place has been deferred, it cannot be deferred again. (unless due to pregnancy – please see GB Ultras Pregnancy Deferral Policy below).

Pregnancy Deferral

  1. Women who have entered a GB Ultras event and are, or become, pregnant prior to race day can defer entry for up to two years.
  2. Women who fall pregnant again during the deferral period may request another deferral for up to an additional two years.
  3. Partners are also able to defer for one year if the birth is imminent.
  4. To defer please email events@gbultras.com with the medical certificate/medical confirmation of the pregnancy/birth.
  5. All other rules and requirements for race entry will apply.

Transfers to another runner

Transfers are possible up until 3 weeks before the Race day providing qualifying criteria is met (see Qualifying Criteria section) and payment of an administration fee. No transfer requests will be permitted after this time.

The replacement runner must complete the Application Form which will be reviewed and if accepted, we will confirm this to the you and the replacement runner.  Please note that applications are not guaranteed to be accepted as the runner must demonstrate a required level of competency to take part in the event.

To initiate the transfer of your place to another runner, there is an admin fee which can be paid here.

Withdrawal during the race

Please inform a GB Ultras Race Marshal at one of the Checkpoint’s or Race HQ.  This will ensure all participants who are registered and pull out of the race are accounted for, allowing for the accurate and safe running of the event.  If a participant withdraws at a Checkpoint they must hand over their Race Number & GPS Tracker to the Event team to signal their retirement.  Marshals will inform the race organiser and each of the remaining Checkpoints can update their event documentation.

Upon withdrawal from the race, it is the responsibility of the individual to get themselves home (or to the finish if required to collect their dropbag). We would recommend having your own Support Crew or someone on standby to collect you in case of unexpected withdrawal during the event.

Where possible, runners withdrawing from the race may be able to be transported by GB Ultras event support from a checkpoint back to Race HQ however this cannot be guaranteed. Priority will be given to runners still participating in the race.

As the race is a circular route, a participant pulling out at a location (particularly sub 120 miles into the race), may not be transported directly to the finish line as the race is on the move.  Participants that have retired from the race may well be transported to another checkpoint further along the route as “priority is given to overall event safety”.  This includes their safety and that of others still taking part in the race.  GB Ultras would prefer Support Crews to pick up their retired runner from the checkpoint and for the support crew to monitor the participants welfare from their onwards.  Where it is possible to transport a runner to the finish, this will only be available after a checkpoint closes and therefore may involve a significant wait. In addition, as event teams are deployed to multiple checkpoint locations, transport to Race HQ may involve intermediate stops on route for further (potentially lengthy) periods of time before heading to Race HQ.  The GM Ringway ties in approximately 20 different stages of Great Manchester and the surrounding area and this includes local train stations which allows the participant that has pulled out of the race to gain onwards transport to Manchester centre to collect their finish line dropbag.  Other dropbags located at dedicated points will be transported to the finish line once the checkpoint has closed.  Support Crews may pickup dropbags on behalf of their participant, however, requests for GB Ultras to individually transport dropbags to the runner at different checkpoints due to runner retirement will not be accepted as this impacts personnel and the overall safety and responsiveness of the event team.

GB Ultras also reserve the right to pull any participant out of the race on health grounds.
